Záznam průběhu obhajoby
Questions: Machová: On page 12, when speaking about the Ring you state that ?the Ring itself is not an evil thing.? What is your view? Can you support this statement by any arguments? Š: It is just a thing, it does not have its own will. It is the Sauron's power not the ring's. Trušník: Is the character of Gandalf the ultimate hero without any monstrous trait in him? Š: He tries to be. I do not think that he is just good. In the beginning when he passes the ring to Frodo and touches the ring, he experiences the power of the ring. Trušník: How did the film version of the trilogy reflect on the complexity of the chosen characters (Frodo, Gollum, Saruman, Gandalf) when it comes to the distinction between the good and the evil? Š: The film version covers it to certain extent. I think the best example is Gollum, he is well portrayed. Bell: Did you look up any definitions of a hero? Š: No, I have not, but I read Beowulf a year ago and I think that helped me. Bell: Can you explain your lack of sources? Š: I found those twelve sources.
