Ošetřovatelství jako profese má transkulturní povahu. Sestry pečují o lidi mnoha kultur, ale mnohdy si neuvědomují trasnkulturní souvislosti a ani podle nich nejednají. Proto je nutné akcentovat, že znalosti kulturních souvislostí jsou potřebné k tomu, aby ošetřovatelská péče o rozmanité národy a kultury světa byla účinná, legitimní a relevantní. Kulturně kongruentní ošetřovatelská péče je významným faktorem podpory a zachování zdraví i cesty od nemoci ke zdraví. V teoretické části objasňuji problematiku multikulturního ošetřovatelství a pou-kazuji na možné odlišnosti při poskytování ošetřovatelské péče. Praktická část analyzuje kulturní kompetentnost zdravotních sester, syntetizuje získané poznatky a navrhuje praxeologická opatření.

The profession of nursing has a trans-cultural character. Nurses look after people of various cultures, but they sometimes do not realize the trans-cultural contexts and do not behave accordingly. It is therefore necessary to stress that the knowledge of cultural background is needed so that looking after various nations and cultures could be efficient, legitimate and relevant. Culturally congruent nursing is an important factor in the support and maintenance of health and the way from illness to health. In the theoretical part I deal with the problems of multicultural nursing and point out possible differences in nursing. The practical part analyzes cultural competence of nurses, synthesizes the acquired knowledge and suggests practical measures.
