Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na léčbu a ošetřování pacienta s hrudním empyémem. Nejčastější léčebnou metodou empyému je hrudní drenáž. Péče o pacienta s hrudní drenáží je různá nejen v každé nemocnici ale i na každém oddělení. Cílem je přiblížit specifickou péči o pacienta odborné veřejnosti.
Teoretická část se věnuje hrudnímu empyému, typům, diagnostice, léčbě. Dále je podrobněji rozebrána léčebná metoda pomocí hrudní drenáže, indikace k zavedení, typy drenáže, příprava pacienta před drenáží, provedení drenáže, komplikace a extrakce. V poslední kapitole je uvedena ošetřovatelská péče o pacienta s empyémem hrudníku řešeného drenáží, chirurgicky a septického pacienta.
Praktická část je zaměřena na vědomosti všeobecných sester v péči o pacienta s hrudní drenáží. Zaměřuje se pouze na pracoviště, kde je možné se s hrudními drény setkat. Ke zjištění a zhodnocení vědomostí je použita kvantitativní metoda, nestandardizovaný dotazník.

This bachelor thesis is focused on treatment and care of the patient with a thoracic empyema. The most frequent treatment of the empyema is a thoracic drainage. Patient care with a thoracic drainage is different not only in each hospital but also in each department. The aim is to approach specific patient care to the public. The theoretical part deals with a thoracic empyema, its types, diagnostics and treatment. Furthermore I describe in details a treatment with a thoracic drainage, indications for its usage, types of drainage, patient preparation before the drainage, performance of the drainage, complications and extraction. In the last chapter I mention a treatment of a patient with a thoracic empyema cured with a thoracic drainage, chirurgical and a septic patient. The practical part is focused on the knowledge of nurses of the cure of patient with a thoracic empyema. It is focused only on a workplace where we can deal with the thoracic drainage. There is a quantitative method used to get the knowledge of nurses, a non - standardized questionnaire.
