The theoretical part is engaged in stylistic analysis, a formal style and corpus linguistics, in addition to various opinions of authors of stylistic publications on the role of informal language in English academic writing. The analytical part of the thesis resolves developing research questions, individual steps of creating a corpus, the choice of appropriate corpus analysis tools and subsequent analysis of material collected. Záznam průběhu obhajoby
Can you explain why you have chosen software AntConc for your analysis? What are its benefits?
Is it (the fact that it is free) the only benefit?
Do you know any other software?
"We" appears pretty much in Czech texts. Is it common in other scientific texts? Isn't it just the translation?
Your thesis aims to analyse stylistic features of the papers written by Czech well-established
scientists. Are they always the authors of the English texts?
Your diachronic analysis works with a time span of 10 years. Is it a sufficient period for
languages/style tendencies to demonstrate? Could you support your answer by research
findings/literature?
Do you think your conclusions would be different if you had a chance to use older articles?
How did you define the elements of informal style?
