Kohezní politika představuje v současnosti významný zdroj peněžních prostředků, které jsou směřovány do oblasti regionálního rozvoje. Její im-plementace v období 2007 - 2013 je předmětem zájmu této práce. Hlavním cílem je klasifikace administrativních regionů zkoumaných zemí z hlediska jejich relativních rozvojových charakteristik v konfrontaci s objemem pod-pory z prostředků kohezní politiky Evropské unie. Pro naplnění tohoto cíle je provedena rozsáhlá analýza na projektové úrovni každého operačního programu cíle Konvergence, která indikuje, do jaké míry byla v České a Slo-venské republice respektována snaha národních vlád o podpory specific-kých regionů. Pro zodpovězení položených otázek jsou využity metody lite-rární rešerše, kartografické metody, stejně jako metody popisné a inferenční statistiky. Konečná klasifikace regionů je provedena pomocí klastrové ana-lýzy a výsledky nasvědčují existenci podobných typů regionů v obou zkou-maných státech. Zároveň naznačují jisté odchýlení od primární intervenční logiky kohezní politiky, kterou je podpora nejzaostalejších regionů.

Cohesion policy presently embodies an important financial source aimed at the area of regional development. Its implementation in the 2007 - 2013 period is the focus of the thesis. The main objective is to classify the admin-istrative regions of researched countries from the point of view of their rela-tive development characteristics and the actually sum if support from the European Union cohesion policy. To achieve this objective an analysis of each Convergence operational programme on a project level was made. This analysis also indicated how well the goal of the national governments of the Czech and Slovak Republic to support specific regions was pursued. To provide answers to the abovementioned the methods of literature review, cartographic methods as well as the descriptive and inferential statistics were used. The classification of regions resulting from cluster analysis indi-cates the same types of regions exist in both countries. At the same time the results imply diversion form the intervention logic of the cohesion policy which is the support of the most underdeveloped regions.
