Záznam průběhu obhajoby
The student presented her bachelor thesis.
Q: Drábková: In subchapter 5.3.1 (p. 27) you write .. Idioms never consist of a verb and adverbial particle or preposition. How do you explain then examples of idioms stay on (p. 32), bring down, shore up, (p. 33) etc. in your lists of multi-word expressions?
A: I can´t as I confused the phrasal verbs with idioms, it is my mistake.
Q: Drábková: Do occurrences of multi-word expressions, figures of speech etc. in a newspaper depend on the British/American origin of the newspaper or on a journalist´s personality and his/her approach to writing?
A: It mostly depends on the journalist ´s personality.
Q: Semotamová:There is quite a big discrepancy in personification in American and British newspapers. How would you explain the fact that the occurence of personification is much higher in American ones.
A: Because of length of the articles, Americans appeal more on emotions than British.
Q: Trčková: What was personified in the articles?
A: Interest rate, prices so that people could understand it more.
Q: Trčková: Why did you focus on collocations and idioms?
A: I found there mostly idioms, thanks to collocations it is easier to understand the text.
