Diplomová práce se zabývá historickým vývojem české penitenciaristiky
se zaměřením na způsoby zacházení s vězněnými osobami. Teoretickou část tvoří dvě kapitoly, z nichž první je věnována vývoji vězeňství na našem území do roku 1989 a druhá část pojednává o reformě vězeňství po roce 1989. V praktické části, která obsahuje třetí kapitolu, je zhodnocen současný stav českého vězeňství.

The dissertation deals with the historical development of the Czech penitentiary system with focus on ways of treatment with incarcerated persons. The theoretical part of the dissertation involves two chapters, the first of which pays attention to the development of the penitentiary system within the Czech territory prior to the year 1989 and the other one concentrates on penitentiary reforms after the year 1989. In the practical part of the dissertation, which involves the third chapter, the current situation of the Czech penitentiary system is assessed.
