Diplomová práce se zabývá místem thanatologie v profesní přípravě pracovníků pomáhajících profesí. Thanatologie, jako nauka o umírání a smrti, je poměrně neznámou vědou, která je nám ale mnohem blíž, než si dokážeme představit. Teoretická část se zabývá vědním oborem thanatologie a definuje základní pojmy, které se s ní pojí, tedy umírání, doprovázení v umírání a smrt. Dále pojednává o začlenění této vědy do systému vzdělávání pracovníků pomáhajících profesí a objasňuje principy a cíle paliativní a hospicové péče. Cílem praktické části bylo zjistit, jakou mají studenti pomáhajících profesí zkušenost se smrtí, jak se staví k umíráním a v čem spatřují v tomto ohledu mezery ve svém vzdělání.

The thesis deals with the field of thanatology in the profession preparing of the staff in the helping professions. Thanatology as a study about dying and death is quite unknown science, which is closer to us than we can imagine. Theoretical part is concerned with the science of thanatology, defines fundamental terms connected with it, so dying, accompanying the dying and death. Further it deals with the integration of this science to the system of staff in the helping professions education and clarify principles and targets of the palliative and hospice care. The aim of this practical part was to discover what is the experience with death of the students of the helping professions, what is their attitude to dying and where they see gaps in their education from this point of view.
