Práce je věnována jednomu z nejstarších sociálně patologických jevů - prostituci. Je členěna do tří relativně samostatných částí. V první kapitole je vymezen samotný pojem prostituce uvedena její klasifikace podle různých klasifikačních kritérií. Popsán je v ní též historický vývoj prostituce ve světě a následně i historie a současnost tohoto fenoménu u nás. Výklad v druhé kapitole je zaměřen na moderní historii právní regulace prostituce na našem území, následuje rozbor stávající právní úpravy ve vztahu k prostituci u nás a návrhy na změnu stávající legislativy. V poslední kapitole jsou zachyceny čtyři skutečné životní příběhy prostitutek z různého prostředí. Další část této kapitoly se zaobírá sociálními a motivačními faktory, které mají vliv na to, že jedinec nastoupí prostituční dráhu.

This thesis deals with one of the oldest socio-pathological features - the prostitution - and is divided into three relatively independent parts. In the first part, the term ''prostitution‘‘ is defined together with its classification according to different classification criteria. The history of prostitution in the world and the history and the present of this phenomenon in our country are described there. The second part of the thesis focuses on the modern history of legal regulation of prostitution in our country, followed by an analysis of current legislation connected with prostitution in our country and motions (proposals) for its change. In the last part, there are depicted four real life-stories of prostitutes from different backgrounds. The last part of the thesis is devoted to social and psychological reasons that can drive a person into prostitution.
