Ukazuje základní funkce a vlastnosti rodiny, pojem rodiny z hlediska rodinného práva, její význam v historickém kontextu, dále se zaměřuje se na charakteristiku současné rodiny, různé podoby rodinného soužití a stručně shrnuje nejnovější demografické údaje, interpretuje výsledky veřejných výzkumů.

This work defines ''family‘‘ in its general context. It describes its basic roles and features as well as the concept from a view of the family law and its importance in historical context. It concentrates on characteristics of contemporary family, various forms of coexistence within a family. Finally, it briefly summarises latest demographical data and interpretes the surrvey findings.
