This bachelor thesis deals with white Southerners´ perceptions of blacks during the Jim Crow era, 1876-1965. The thesis contains a summary of historical background and antebellum perceptions of blacks. The thesis also deals with white Southerners´ perceptions of blacks during the Reconstruction era, white supremacy, aversion of whites to miscegenation, purposes of segregation, and protests against desegregation.
