Byly studovány mechanické a chemické vlastnosti, např. kontaktní úhel smáčení, FTIR, TGA, tahová zkouška při zjištění změn v mechanických charakteristikách (v mechanické pevnosti) a smáčení.
Annotation in English The sol-gel process has been an excellent technology for coating various materials thus imparting new properties to the treated samples. In this work we have firstly manufactured handmade cellulose sheets from bleached cotton fibres. Secondly our handsheet surfaces were impregnated with three different alcoholic solutions of polymeric silicon alkoxides precursors: tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) using the sol-gel process. After coating, the drying stage was kept to different factors of evaporation and temperature rate in order to evaluate eventual differences on physico-chemical characteristics of the treated handsheets. Tests were performed by means of mechanical and chemical analysis, e.g., contact angle measurements, FT-IR, TGA, and in order to evaluate the improvement of tensile strength and water repellence, tensile tests and water uptake tests were also carried on respectively. To investigate our results, the treated papers were always compared with the original nonocoated handsheet in all submitted analysis. Regarding the three compounds used, MTMS was undoubtedly the most advantageous to impart hydrophobicity on the fibres surface due to its alkyl chain which promotes low-energy surfaces of the substrates. Investigations whether silicon alkoxides were adsorbed onto a cellulose substrate and consequently grafted to the surface seemed to be confirmed by contact angle analysis and water uptake tests.
