Ethanol je v naší společnosti bezesporu nejtolerovanější drogou. Je to dáno jak jeho snadnou dostupností, tak velkou tradicí, ale i opomíjenými následky při jeho užívání. Podíl na vzniku alkoholismu má jak genetická predispozice, tak výchova a prostředí.
Sám fakt, že abúzus alkoholu je v České republice často zlehčován, však nemění nic na tom, že postihuje celou osobnost závislého jedince, a to jak po duševní, tak po fyzické stránce. Nejvíce trpí alkoholikovi nejbližší ? rodina, partner, děti. Hledisko sociální a ekonomické je však potřeba zohlednit též, protože má dopad na společnost jako celek.
Přes to, že pití alkoholu se u nás přijímá jako samozřejmost a naopak abstinence se často setkává s nepochopením, je třeba si konečně připustit, že alkoholismus je celospolečenským problémem, který je potřeba řešit.
Nejlepší je, samozřejmě, prevence. Nicméně, pokud se tato míjí účinkem, je třeba přistoupit k léčbě a úplné abstinenci.

Ethanol si surely the most tolerated drug in our society. It is based on the fact, that this drug is easy accessible, there is also great tradition. The effects after using this drug was also omitted. The genetic predisposition, the upbringing and the setting have the influence in the connection with the rise of the alcoholism.
The alcoholism is not considered as serious problem in the Czech Republic. But it is true, that the personality of such a man is affected mentally and physically. The very close people to the drinker ? the family, the partner, the children ? suffer very much. The social and economic point of view of this problem is necessary to consider also, because it has impact on the whole society.
Despite of the fact, that drinking of alkohol in our republic is accepted like normal thing and vice versa the abstinence face up very often to the lack of understanding, it is necessary to realize, that the alcoholism is the whole society problem, which must be solved.
The prevention is the best way, how to solve it. But of course, if the prevention is not successful, it is necessary to start with the treatment and total abstinence.
