Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na způsoby trestání pachatelů trestných činů, rozebírá jednotlivé druhy trestů, jak ovlivňují jednotlivé tresty pachatele. Zabývá se problematikou funkčnosti trestu, zda-li ukládané tresty v podobě v jaké jsou používány plní všechny své funkce týkající se nápravy pachatelů a dostatečně před nimi chrání společnost. Srovnává názory na účinnost trestů mezi laickou veřejnosti a příslušníky Policie ČR.

Bachelor's thesis focuses on the ways to punish offenders, examines the different types of penalties, as it affects the individual offender sentences. It deals with issues of functionality of the sentence, if imposed penalties in the form in which they are used with all its functions relating to the perpetrators and redress adequately protect society from them. It compares the views on the effectiveness of penalties between the general public and the Police of the Czech Republic.
