Information about the branch of study Materials Engineering

Name of branch of study Materials Engineering
Abbreviation for the branch of study pnMI
Validity 2001 - 2024 Branch of study number 3911T011 Specialization number 0
Form of study Full-time Type of study Postgraduate Master Credit limit 120
Std. length of study 2 Max.length of study 4 Number of stages 1
Branch of study guarantor Mráček Aleš, prof. Mgr. Ph.D.
Educational goals This study course concentrates on research and development of new materials, mainly composites with polymeric matrix, and polymer alloys, and it stresses understanding the principles governing material structure and properties. Special attention is paid to the preparation and development of new materials with tailored properties (physical, chemical, biochemical) and to modern measuring methods used for characterization of particular material's properties; and furthermore to the use of computer systems for modelling material quantities, their extrapolation to the limit stress states, and modelling of stress by the FEM method. Some lectures also deal with rapid prototyping systems for the plastics industry, metal processing, and design of special ceramics. Emphasis is given to the coordination of all phases of preparation, characterization and identification of individual products and their manufacturing in accordance with ISO and ČSN standards. Students become familiar with physical, physico-chemical and chemical properties of basic polymeric materials. The study course focuses on chemical and engineering disciplines, including subjects such as mathematics, information technology and economics. Students use the latest technologies for the simulation of physico-chemical properties.
Specialization profile A study programme is aimed to promote the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, research and development and to lead students to apply this knowledge and develop their creative facilities
