Course content
Lecture Characteristics of living systems: metabolic composition of organisms Biomolecules and water: a brief overview and their importance Organisation of biological systems: living systems from a molecular perspective General characteristics of biopolymers: meaning, general principles, formation and spatial structure Amino acids: composition, structure and properties in living systems Proteins and peptides: meaning, structure and properties Biological function of proteins and properties of protein solutions Nucleic acids: nucleotides, structure, DNA, RNA High molecular weight structures and biomembranes: components of organisation, transport of substances Enzymes: general characteristics and classification, structure and forms of occurrence Seminar Efficacy of enzymes and mechanism of action Acid-base balance (ABR), material sampling, types of ABR disorders, diff. Dg. ABR disorders, ion metabolism, sodium, potassium Techniques and methods of collection of biological material, its labelling, storage and sending for processing
