Course content
Seminar topics: 1. Transfusion therapy. Ordering, preparing, and administering blood and blood products. 2. Oxygen therapy. Monitoring the respiratory system. Suctioning secretions from the upper airways. 3. Parenteral and enteral nutrition. Nutritional stomas. 4. Perioperative care. 5. Home care agencies, documentation, and patient care in home care. 6. Thanatology. Curative treatment. Palliative care and its forms. 7. Medical rehabilitation care - introduction, basic concepts. 8. Basic physiotherapy procedures - positioning, respiratory rehabilitation, verticalization. 9. Immobilisation syndrome, causes, prevention. 10. Basal stimulation. Practicals topics: 1. Indications and contraindications of administration, post-transfusion reactions. Transfusion products. Blood group compatibility. 2. Documentation related to ordering and administering blood and blood derivatives. Donation conditions. 3. Suctioning secretions from the upper airways. Sources of oxygen. Methods of oxygen administration and their adverse effects. Safe handling of oxygen sources and oxygen cylinders. Principles of oxygen administration. Care of the airways in conscious patients. Care of the nasal and oral cavities. 4. Monitoring patients undergoing oxygen therapy. Methods of humidifying the airways. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy - methods, indications, and contraindications. Non-invasive pulmonary ventilation. Home oxygen therapy. 5. Types of enteral nutrition and possibilities for its application. Long-term home parenteral nutrition. Feeding patients, dietary system. 6. Preparing the patient before surgery. Perioperative and postoperative care. Recovery (post-operative) rooms. Care of drains and drainage systems. Classification and types of drains. 7. Positioning according to the indication areas, aids. 8. Respiratory rehabilitation - use of aids, breathing trainers. 9. Verticalization, aids. 10. Use of basic elements of basal stimulation.

- describe nursing procedures in accordance with the competencies of a paramedic; - describe nursing procedures in individual areas, including care for the elderly, their significance, preparation and care for the patient before, during, and after the procedure/activity; - know the negative effects of incorrectly performed nursing procedures on human health; - know the basic areas of medical rehabilitation care, the issue of immobilisation syndrome, basal stimulation; - know the basic procedures of physiotherapy - positioning, respiratory rehabilitation, verticalization.
