Seminar topics: 1. Introduction to study. Caring for the environment of a patient, hospital bed, handling linen, auxiliary nursing bed equipment, resuscitation bed. Positions of patients, care for rest, sleep. 2. Prevention of healthcare-associated infections, hygienic hand disinfection, barrier regime, disinfection, sterilization. Medical and nursing documentation. 3. Treatment of acute, aseptic, and septic wounds. Prevention and treatment of chronic wounds, including pressure ulcers. Dressing cart, sterile table, assistance with dressing changes. 4. Hygienic care for adult and pediatric patients. Specifics of comprehensive hygienic care for the immobilized patient. Immobility syndrome. 5. Monitoring physiological functions. Body temperature, respiration, pulse. EKG recording, monitoring with a pulse oximeter. Consciousness check. 6. Care for a patient in pain, concept of basic stimulation. 7. Collection of biological material: urine, stool, sputum, gastric and duodenal contents, swabs, cytologies. 8. Collection of biological material: capillary and venous blood samples. 9. Ensuring the emptying of urine, care for patients with urinary incontinence. Catheterization of the bladder: single-use, permanent, care for a permanent urinary catheter. 10. Ensuring the emptying of stool. Application of enemas. Care for patients with fecal incontinence and possibilities for its resolution. Familiarization with the issue of stomas. Education of the patient, available aids and their accessories. Classification of stomas. Specifics of caring for individual types of stomas. Diet for stoma patients. 11. Receiving and checking medicinal products, handling them. Dealing with narcotic substances (opioids). Administering medications orally, into cavities, onto mucous membranes, via the skin, and through the respiratory tract. 12. Administration of intradermal and subcutaneous injections. 13. Administration of intramuscular injections. 14. Ensuring peripheral venous access. Intravenous administration of medications. Types of intravenous accesses and their care. Infusion therapy. Exercise topics: 1. Introduction to the hospital bed. Options for transporting and positioning patients. Practice in making beds and handling mobile patients. Prevention of patient falls. Handling clean and used linen. 2. Practice in hygienic hand disinfection. Handling sterile materials. Familiarization with sample nursing and medical documentation. 3. Mastering basic bandaging techniques. Healing chronic wounds using moist therapy products. Available materials and methods. Prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers. Preparation of a sterile table for simple surgical procedures. Assisting the doctor with dressing a wound. Basic instruments. 4. Hygienic care for adult and pediatric patients. Specifics of comprehensive hygienic care for immobile patients. 5. Clinical and device monitoring of physiological functions, recording measured values in sample medical documentation. Electrocardiography. 7. Collection of biological material: urine, stool, sputum, gastric and duodenal contents, swabs, smears. 8. Collection of biological material: capillary and venous blood collection. 9. Catheterization of a woman's urinary bladder, assisting the doctor in inserting a urinary catheter into a man. Types of catheters. Care for a patient with a permanent urinary catheter in place. 10. Administration of enemas. Care for a stoma and changing a stoma appliance. 11. Acceptance and control of medicinal products, handling of them. Handling of narcotic substances (opiates, opioids). Keeping records of narcotic substance use in healthcare facilities. Protocol for destruction. Options for their administration. Storage of medications, checking expirations. Administering medication to a patient and recording it. 12. Administration of intradermal and subcutaneous injections. 13. Administration of intramuscular injections. 14. Ensuring peripheral venous access.
