Course content
Lecture topics: 1. The importance of biochemistry in medical fields (definition of biochemical fields - pathobiochemistry, clinical biochemistry, xenobiochemistry). 2. Cell biochemistry (cell organelles, cell membrane - membrane transport). 3. Composition of living organisms (biogenic elements - macrobiogenic, microbiogenic). 4. Basic organic compounds of living matter - nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids. 5. Metabolism regulation, endocrine system. 6. Enzymology. 7. Hemopoiesis, leukocytes, erythrocytes, thrombocytes, classification, morphology, function. 8. Anaemia, basic classification, causes, symptoms, laboratory findings. 9. Leukaemia, MDS, myeloproliferation, basic classification, causes, symptoms. 10. Lymphoproliferation, basic classification, causes, symptoms. 11. Primary hemostasis, coagulation factors, fibrinolysis, blood clotting inhibitors. 12. Hemostasis disorders, thrombocytopathy, haemophilia, thrombophilia, vWCH, HIT, TTP, DIC. 13. Blood donation and its components. 14. Transfusion products. Seminar topics: 1. Review - chemical calculations, cells, organelles, organic chemistry. 2. Membrane transport. Expressing solution concentrations. 3. Energetics - calculations. 4. Water and minerals (water distribution, main ions, water loss). 5. Acid-base balance. 6. Differences in metabolism among organisms and their significance. 7. Reference values. 8. Blood count examination, individual parameters, methods of blood sampling. 9. Differential leukocyte count, pathological changes in erythrocytes, leukocytes, thrombocytes. 10. Bone marrow sampling and examination, morphological evaluation, pathological changes. 11. Basic coagulation tests, aggregation, Multiplate, PFA200, influence of the preanalytical phase. 12. Special coagulation tests for coagulopathies, thrombophilias, vWCH, HIT, TTP, DIC. 13. Organisation of transfusion services. 14. Blood crisis policy.
