Course content
Seminars - Introduction to the study of hematology, history, blood science, anatomy and physiology of blood, blood clotting. Symptoms of blood diseases, propaedeutics, anamnesis, hematological examinations, blood samples - 1 hour. - Anemia. White blood cell disorders. Platelets. - 1 hour. - Coagulopathy - bleeding disorders, substitution by blood derivatives. Coagulopathy - thrombotic disorders, thrombophilia, anticoagulant and antithrombotic treatment - 1 hour. - History of transfusions, historical discoveries regarding blood, infusion therapy, circulatory physiology and blood composition. Blood donation, registries of blood donors, motivation for donation, eligibility of blood donors for donation, risk of transmission of viral diseases by transfusions, National and international registries of rare and discarded donors - 1 hour. - Examination of the blood donor before collection, after collection, blood collection technique, blood bags and kits, management of blood collection complications, specifics of transfusions in newborns - 1 hour. - Blood groups and their importance in transfusions, pre-transfusion examinations, antibody screening, hemolytic disease of the newborn - 1 hour. - Methods of instrumental apheresis - blood donation, medical apheresis. Blood processing after collection, transfusion products, mandatory examinations, transport of transfusion products - 1 hour. Class practice - Hemotherapy - administration of transfusions - 2 hours. - Hemotherapy - post-transfusion reactions, complications, the role of the nurse in their management and recognition, first aid - 2 hours. - Hemotherapy - administration of platelet preparations, FFP - 1 hour. - Blood donation - the role of the nurse - 1 hour. - Compulsory internship at the transfusion department and at the hematology hospital - 1 hour.
