Course content
Lectures - Metaparadigm of the field, terminology in surgery, development of specialized fields, conservative and radical treatment. Basic and special examination methods in surgery - 2 hours. - Conditions requiring surgery. Categories of surgical procedures. Urgency of surgical procedures and risks - 2 hours. - Long-term and immediate preoperative care, examinations before surgery - general and specific. Anesthesia and resuscitation in surgery - 2 hours. - Operation. Preparation of surgical and anesthesiology team, surgical methods. Documentation management in surgery. Postoperative complications - 2 hours. - Disorders of nutritional metabolism and internal environment in surgery - 1 hour. - Infections in surgery - selected types of surgical infections. Wound science - injuries (trauma plan), antisepsis, asepsis - prevention of nosocomial infections - 2 hours. - Shock, treatment and prevention, first aid in surgery - 1 hour. - Surgery of the head, spine and limbs. Traumatology - 1 hour. - Neck and chest surgery. Traumatology - 1 hour. Class practice - Overview of surgical disciplines. Arrangement of the surgical department. Specifics of work in the surgical department (outpatient department, inpatient department, operating department). The nature of the nurse's work - the concept of surgical nursing - 2 hours. - Asepsis, antisepsis, surgical infections. Hand hygiene, laundry handling, waste disposal, disinfection and sterilization in surgery - 2 hours. - Basic surgical procedures (surgical incisions, sutures, drainage systems). Preparation of the dressing trolley. Aseptic dressing of the surgical wound. Preparation of a sterile table. Drain shortening, drain removal, removal of sutures / staples, wound swab, assistance with aseptic procedures - 4 hours. - Types, healing and treatment of wounds in surgery. Nursing care of patients with selected types of surgical infections - 2 hours. - Nursing process in patients at the surgical outpatient clinic, small surgical procedures, the competence of the nurse, the peculiarities of nursing care for children - 2 hours. - Examination methods in surgery, participation of the nurse in the preparation for examinations, follow-up after the examination, in the education of the client - 2 hours. - Operation. Types of operations, indications and contraindications, Hygienic and anti-epidemic requirements and regime measures to ensure the operation of the operating room (patient and staff in the operating room). Preoperative and postoperative care, postoperative complications - 2 hours. - Anaesthesia and analgesia. Anaesthesiological procedures, preoperative questionnaire and examination. Evaluation of pain. Opiate administration. Postoperative pain therapy - 2 hours. - Surgical rehabilitation, surgical dietetics - 1 hour. - Nursing process in patients with traumatological diseases of the head, spine and limbs - 1 hour. - Nursing process in a client with surgical diseases of the neck and chest and thyroid gland - 1 hour.
