Course content
Lectures - Socrates and his maieutics. Plato - Parable of the Cave. Epicurus. Hippocrates and his ethical legacy (1 h). - Ancient philosophy. Medieval philosophy: Descartes, Spinoza (2 h). - Modern philosophy: Immanuel Kant. Philosophy of the 20th century and representatives - existentialism, phenomenology, hermeneutics, significance for nursing (2 h). - The philosophy of the paradigm (Thomas Kuhn). Bioethical convention. Philosophy of holism (1 h). - Sources of ethics. Subject, tasks, goals of ethics in nursing. Basic ethical principles of nursing (2 h). - Human dignity and its ethical dimension. Individual components of human dignity and their ethical dimension (1 h). - Codes of ethics (1 h). Seminars - Ethical decision-making process, ethical decision-making model. Evaluation of risky situations in nursing - case studies. Brainstorming (3 h). - Philosophy of dying. Ethical aspects of dying and death care (3 h). - Charter of the Rights of the Dying. Code of ethics for oncology patients (2 h). - Philosophy and ethics of palliative care. Codes of ethics in relation to palliative care. Ethical aspects of oncology patient/client care, case studies. Ethical aspects of the development of hospice care - current issues (3 h). - Euthanasia. A previously expressed wish. The limits of dignity at the end of life and the excess of respect for the person (3 h). - The process of developing patients' rights (2 h). - The nurse's relationship with the patient and the patient's relatives, informed consent (2 h). - Ethical aspects of care for the elderly, salutogenesis, ageism (3 h). - Ethical aspects of child care. Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Rights of the hospitalized child. Ethical aspects of listening and empathy (3 h).
