Lectures - The position of palliative care in the system of health and social services in the Czech Republic, the development of palliative care provided to children in the Czech Republic, the role of a psychologist and psychotherapist in a palliative team, the importance of communication with the patient and his loved ones, the importance of interdisciplinary team communication in the care of a terminally ill patient. Sources of stress in palliative care, strategies for coping with stress, burnout syndrome (causes, manifestations, prevention). Appropriate psychohygiene procedures in caring for "oneself", strategies for coping with stress. Psychosocial aspects of illness - loss of work role, family financial security, change of environment, social role, planning for the future. - Palliative communication and its specifics. Phases of adaptation of the patient and his family to an incurable disease. Fear of death and dying, psychological aspects of chronic pain in adult and pediatric patients. Phases of mourning and the most common questions of survivors, options for emotional and communication support for survivors, needs of survivors and grieving family members. - Specifics of dying of pediatric patients in hospice and home environment. The impact of a child's illness on the family and its functioning. Exercises Self-experience exercises: - Expectations from education "Where is my role in palliative care?"; establishing contact with the patient and his loved ones, communication with the child, use of play in caring for the child. - Appropriate procedures for communicating a serious diagnosis and unfavorable prognosis; everyday proximity to death, respect for life and dying, self-reflection; psychohygiene in palliative care and care for "self". - Communication with a terminally ill pediatric, adolescent and adult patient and his loved ones - psychosocial approach, body language, play therapy, etc. - Identification of the patient's current needs, assessment and measurement of pain and painful behavior, including somatic and psychological components; issues of acute conditions - fear, anxiety. - The patient's life story and his needs at the end of life. - Frequently asked questions of survivors, practical information and assistance to survivors. - Principles of communication with survivors after the death of a child, options for emotional and communication support. - Communication with the patient's loved ones, passing on information, a close person, a person of trust.
