Course content
Aims of the subject (annotation): The aim of the subject is to familiarize students with the basics of communication skills, introduce them to the basic components of communication and show how communication skills can be develop. The ability to communicate successfully is one of the core skills of a health and social worker / social worker. As part of the lecture, students will receive a basic theoretical compendium in which basic theoretical terminology will be define. As part of the exercises, they will practice various communication situations, where the core of the subject is the training of these situations, with the aim of leading students to their analysis, understanding and practice of possible solutions to the situation. The aim is to acquire such knowledge and skills that will enable the student to acquire sufficient self-confidence and professional communication competence to act as a well-founded and self-confident professional, both when working with an individual client and the community, group and the public. Requirements for the student: Subject completion method: classified credit. Attendance: Participation in seminars (min. 80%). Classified credit: Active participation in the tasks that will assigned during the lesson. Classified credit will award at the base on a written test (at 70%). Content - Basic theoretical framework and overall context of communication in health and social care. - Communication competence of a health and social worker. - Alternative communication approaches in social work. - Factors affecting communication with a focus on the specificity of communication in health and social care. - Verbal communication and its aspects in health and social care. - Nonverbal communication and its aspects in health and social care. - Written communication and its aspects in health and social care. - Professional communication in difficult situations. - Augmentative and alternative communication. - Conflicts and their resolution. - Exercise: Practicing communication skills in model situations: 1. Communication with the patient/client - interview with the patient/client, appropriate, problematic and pathological communication. 2. Communication with specific groups of patients/clients (of different ages, with a demanding patient/client, a seductive patient/client, an aggressive patient/client, with anxiety, with pain, with a stranger, with a handicap, with a patient/client suffering from a loss, with a patient /client with fatal illness, with survivors).
