Course content

- Basic translator approaches and procedures. - Characteristics of basic functional styles (e.g. administrative, scientific and technical, journalistic, publicistic, artistic), translation of concrete texts. - Professional style and their characteristic features (impersonality, linking, density, rationality) and linguisitic resources for expressing the same in the source and target languages; translations of concrete texts. - Commercial letters. - Web-pages - specifics of translating Internet presentations. - Translation using computers, Trados and other programmes. - Critiquing translations. - Translations with commentaries. - Verified (Notarised) translations - the work of a Court Translator. - Adverts and their specific needs for translators. - Course Credit Test.

| The student has an advanced knowledge of various types of text. They will be able to differentiate the specifics and complicatedness of various types of texts - especially in the field of texts relating to their future success in the economic and business worlds (Sachtexte). They will be able to confront linguistic norms in the source and target languages and cultures; and is able to translate from German into Czech and vice versa, and to critically evaluate a translation. The student has an excellent overview of specific aides and tools for translation activities. |
