Course content
- Linguistic disciplines, their cathegories and relations. - Definition of the terms of Philology and Linguistics, Basic Linguistic Terminology - Czech and German Linguistics, The Prague School of Linguistics. - The diachronous and synchronous study of languages. - The diachronous study of the german language. - The communicative Function of the language ans Pragmatics - The Language Structure, Analysis of the language plans: (Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax. - The Language Structure, Analysis of the language plans: (Morphology and Lexikocology. - Semantics, Pragmatics, Psycholinguistics. - The reform of German spelling.

This course presupposes both the receptive and productive skills at the starting level B1 of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

learning outcomes
The student has knowledge of General Linguistics and be able to perform a basic linguistic analysis of a text. The absolvent of the course is able to do a basic linguistic analysis, to work with the linguistic terminology and is able to apply it in other linguistic courses during his/her studies. At the end of the cycle, he/she has unified overview of Germanics and its place among scientific disciplines and the subjects related to linguistics investigations, with an emphasis on Contrastive Grammar and Linguistics. Further, he/she basic knowledge of the relevant printed as well as electronic resources (grammar, language corpuses, dictionaries).
