Course content
- CATs in general - SDL Trados Studio as an advanced translation environment, compatibility with other databases - Translation, recycling documents - Productivity of SDL Trados Studio use - Installation, user interface language - Setting up a project, importing the project - Creation and use of a translation memory and term base - Translation of the document (translating segments, confirming segments, joining/splitting segments, inserting suggestions to the segment. editing the translation) - Entering terms to term base - Pre-translation - Translation Quality Assessment - Exporting a document in the original format - Practising individual phenomena on real translations

Monologic (Exposition, lecture, briefing), Demonstration, Exercises on PC

learning outcomes
After passing this course, the student is able to apply theoretical knowledge of CAT tools in practical performance of non-literary translation with regards to the language skills (exactness, clarity, non-ambiguity, functional word-order, verb valency) and technical skills (form and typography, Czech rules, English rules etc.) After completing the course, the student is able to work individually in SDL Trados Studio 2021 application. Except for that, the student achieves an overview of how management of translation projects is run and how translation memories and terminological databases are managed.
