Course content
- Introduction to the theory of text analysis - Definition of text, discourse, context - Language, communication, text; Functions of texts - Cohesion and coherence - Context-relevant information and semantic core of the utterance - Sender, recipient of a text; Negotiation of meaning; Interpretation - Cooperative principle and conversational implicature - Language and culture conventions; Ideology in text - Analysis of textual and extra-textual factors

learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student is able to analyse the conditions of text functioning in a communicative situation and thus create their own specialised text which respects conventions and discourse rules of text usage. The student is able to analyse a text already produced before the text gets translated, to the point where the text in its real usage becomes functional. The student is able to work with special terminology of linguistic analysis and use theoretical knowledge in real communicative situations.
