Course content
- Introduction into a wider theoretical background of translation and available theoretical publications - Translation of various literary and non-literary types of texts - Critical evaluation of source texts with the emphasis on understanding various facets of meaning - Analysis of source texts from the perspective of text typology, stylistics, functions, and language properties - Analysis of source text and its translation based on current translation strategies - Translation and analysis of texts and discussion about own translation strategies based on the knowledge from theoretical sources - Analysis and correction of the most frequent student mistakes in the translation process

Knowledge
Students understand the differences between languages and cultures and the problems that arise when finding functionally equivalent translations. They use this knowledge for practical training of translation skills. They have an overview of various styles and genres and they are able to adapt the translation means accordingly. They work critically with the source text and critically evaluate their own translation product.
