- Origins of language - Development of writing - Language properties - Language acquisition vs. language learning - Language and the brain - Linguistics, linguistic disciplines and their specifications - Morphology - Words and Word Formation Processes - Semantics vs. Pragmatics - Approaches to grammar, parts of speech and their typical features - The 20th century European and American scholarship - The Prague Linguistic Circle
