Course content
1. Basic concepts, collection and preparation of samples. 2. Determination of water, dry matter and volatile substances (explanation of terms, indirect methods of water determination, direct methods of water determination), recalculation of analysis results to determine moisture content, conditioning. 3. Mineral substances, ash, mineralization (principle, evidence of some elements). 4. Determination of pH, extracts, solubility of substances. 5. Recognition constants (numbers) of substances - chemical, expression of test results. 6. Recognition constants (numbers) of substances - physical. 7. Tannins. 8. Chromium compounds. 9. Fats and oils, glycerol, fat breakdown. 10. Leather and leather materials - chemical testing methods (volatile substances, substances extractable with dichloromethane, water-leachable substances, ash, chromium oxide). 11. Physical and mechanical properties - dimensions, weight, shrinkage temperature. 12. Tensile properties - tensile strength and ductility, mandrel tear strength, seam tear strength, resistance to further tearing, slot tear strength. 13. Features of the surface treatment - repeated bending, adhesion of the surface treatment to the leather, stability of the treatment against abrasion, abrasions, resistance of the face to bending. 14. Hygienic properties - sorption and desorption of moisture, permeability to water vapor, permeability of the face layer to water.
