Course content
1. Introduction to general toxicology (basic terms, definitions, division of toxicology). 2. Fate of foreign substances in the organism (absorption, distribution). 3. Fate of foreign substances in the organism (biotransformation, excretion). 4. General principles of classification, diagnosis and therapy of poisoning (elimination of xenobiotics from the body; antidotes). 5. Genetic toxicology (carcinogens, mutagens, teratogens). 6. Experimental toxicology (animal tests, acute and chronic toxicity tests, carcinogenicity tests, mutagenicity, kinetic studies, biological exposure tests, epidemiological studies). Predictive toxicology (QSAR). 7. Special toxicology of selected inorganic substances (elements of main and secondary subgroups and their toxicologically important compounds). 8. Radioactive substances (selected radionuclides, biological effects of radiation). 9. Special toxicology of selected organic substances (hydrocarbons, alcohols, phenols, ethers, carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids, esters of organic and inorganic acids, nitro and amino compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls, pesticides, polybrominated flame retardants). 10. Toxicology of narcotic and psychotropic substances. 11. Natural poisons (plant, animal, bacterial, toxins of molds and fungi). 12. Military toxicology (combat poisons, non-lethal chemical weapons, bioterrorism). 13. Analytical toxicology (drug tests, determination of alcohol in the body). 14. Legislation and work with poisons and other pollutants.
