Course content
1. Sampling methods. Types of samples analyzed. Data quality in environmental analysis. Calibration methods. 2. Analysis of metal elements - sample digestion for elemental analysis of metals. Analytical methods. 3. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) - sample extraction and cleanup, air analysis, analytical techniques. 4. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) - sample extraction and cleanup, air analysis, analytical techniques. 5. Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-furans (PCDDs/PCDFs) - sample extraction (aqueous and nonaqueous samples) and cleanup, analysis. 6. Organochlorine pesticides - sample extraction (aqueous and nonaqueous samples), cleanup, analysis, air analysis. 7. Total nitrogen analysis. Determination of nitrates, nitrites and ammonium ions in water samples. 8. Volatile organic compounds (chlorinated hydrocarbons, BTEX) - air analysis, analysis of aqueous and nonaqueous samples. 9. Phenols (total phenolic compounds) and chlorophenols - sample extraction, analysis of aqueous and nonaqueous samples, 10. Natural toxins analysis - sample extraction, cleanup, techniques of analysis. 11. Pharmaceuticals - sample preparation and cleanup, analysis. 12. Flame retardants (polybrominated diphenyl ethers, PBDEs) - sample extraction (soils, sediments), cleanup, analysis. 13. Phthalate esters - air analysis, sample extraction (aqueous and nonaqueous samples), cleanup, analysis. 14. Cyanides, total - methods of determination in water; cyanides in aerosol and gas; determination of cyanides in solid matrices (soil, sediment, solid waste). 15. Possibilities of detection of organisms by molecular-biological methods.
