Course content
|
The aim of the course Contemporary Trends in Photography, which is conceived as a continuation of the course History of Photography, dealing mainly with the history of media, is to bring students the latest trends in contemporary photography. Lectures reflect the entry of new media and social themes into photography, as well as transcending the boundaries of traditionally defined genres. Photography is understood here not only as an artistic medium, but as a more generally defined means of visual communication, including applied, scientific, commercial, amateur and campaign photography. A lot of space is also devoted to the issue of photographic exhibitions and methodical procedures in creating a set, portfolio and exhibition. During the seminars, students learn to choose from their own visual material, build a file, adjust it correctly, communicate with the exhibition space and install it accordingly. The course also includes excursions to photographic exhibitions and subsequent discussions and analyzes based on their visual documentation. The relationship between artist and curator as well as the mechanism of exhibition institutions will be analyzed. The course also includes creative writing in the form of an exhibition review, book, or photographic image analysis. Students will learn to structure theoretical problems in the field of contemporary visuality and to process them in essay. NOTE: The pedagogue reserves the right to continuously modify the content of the course in relation to the current requirements of ARF students.
