Course content
1. Footwear and its definition as an object that, in addition to its practical use, also carries a high charge of information about lifestyle, craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility in diverse territories and epochs 2. Prehistoric Europe (archeological finds of shoes, shoe-shaped artifacts, leatherwork in prehistoric times) 3. The oldest surviving footwear in the world (Oregon - shoes made of sagebrush) and in Europe (Oetzi - man from the glacier) 4. Ancient civilizations-Mesopotamia and Egypt (indirect evidence of the level of footwear on stelae and frescoes, evidence of ancient shoemaking and tanning craft) 5. Funerary footwear from the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun 6. Ancient Greece and Rome (sandalion, endromis, carbatina, crepida, caligae, babylonica, kothornos) 7. Characteristics of types and shapes of footwear in the period 5-10. century (Byzantium, Frankish Empire) 8. Reconstruction of footwear of the Slavs during the period of the Great Moravian Empire 9. Development of the shoemaker's craft in the 11th-15th centuries century 10. Types and shapes of medieval footwear (scrabblers, stilettos, pedestals, shoes) 11. Soulier a la poulaine gothic shoes, Tripen slippers, tights 12. Hierarchy in a medieval shoemaker's workshop (master, journeyman, apprentice), workshop equipment 13. The emergence of guild associations, their role in the development of the craft, guild rules and insignia, legends about the patrons of the craft
