Course content
1. Motivation for modeling and simulation, basic approaches; general procedure for deriving a model; illustrative example. 2. Dynamics and steady-state model, linearization and deviation model; basic classification of dynamical systems. 3. Modelling of mechanical systems. 4. Modelling of electrical systems. 5. Modelling of fluid systems. 6. Modelling of chemical processes. 7. Basics of approximation of functions, polynomial approximation. 8. Simulation of steady-state behaviour of linear lumped parameter processes. 9. Solution of systems of linear equations, direct and indirect (iterative methods), solution conditions and convergence. 10. Simulation of steady-state behaviour of non-linear lumped parameter processes.. 11. Solution of non-linear equations and their systems - starting, refining and special methods. 12. Simulation of dynamic behaviour of lumped parameter processes. 13. Numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, numerical stability, one-step and multiple-steps methods. 14. Simulation of steady-state and dynamics of distributed parameter processes, boundary-value problems, introduction to the solution of partial differential equations, finite differences method.
