Course content
- Historical development of a teaching profession in the world and the Czech lands. - Characteristics of a teaching profession - definition, types of teachers. Teaching staff. Requirements for a teaching profession. - Development of teaching career. Teacher beginner - expert - a burning-out teacher. - The teacher as a helping profession. Academic freedom and the right to education. Decision-making in pedagogical practice and its issues. - Socio-professional structure of teachers. Reputation and feminization of a teaching profession. - Working field of teachers - standards and a repertoire of teaching activities. Workload of teachers and health. - Teaching skills - definitions, characteristics, research and development of teaching skills. Performance standards in a teaching profession. - Decision-making in education - content, activities, teacher and pupil. Motivation in education - increasing students' motivation and interest in learning. - Reflection and evaluation of teachers´ educational activities - Methods and techniques of self-reflection. - Class climate - creating a positive class climate, increasing self-esteem of pupils. - Discipline - the nature of inappropriate behavior of students, authority of teachers, use of punishment, strategies to obtain and maintain discipline. - Czech teachers in an international comparison - demographic and professional characteristics. Working conditions and salaries of teachers in the late 20th century in the world and in the Czech rep. Charter of teachers.
