- Colloid systems, classification of dispersion systems, shape and size of particles. - Surface tension, surface energy. - Phase interfaces and their description, wettability, wetting angle. - Surfactants in aqueous solutions, micelles, critical micelle concentration. - Emulsions, foams, aerosols. - Colloidal interaction and stability, DLVO theory. - Sedimentation (gravitational, centrifugal), basic considerations. - Mrownian motion. Diffusion, Fick's laws. - Osmotic pressure, van´t Hoff equation. - Viscosity of dispersion systems, optical properties of dispersion systems. - Surface films, surface pressure, Gibbs equation, adsorption, adsorption isotherms. - Zeta potenrial and electrokinetic phenomena. - Applications of colloids. - Methods for colloid characterization.
