Course content
1. Appearance and perception of the other, mimetic and aposematic forms (Portmann, Komárek), forms of gaze (gaze); 2. Social action, parameters of action (roles and expectations), types of action (Arendt, Weber, Umlauf); 3. Social valuation, status and its components, identity, symbolization of positions in social space (Petrusek); 4. Forms of action in everyday life, lifestyle (Weber) style, (Bourdieu: habitus and field); 5. Culture, cultural patterns, dominant culture and subcultures, subversion and recuperation; 6. Differentiation of cultures, concept of taste cultures (Gans), subcultures (Hebdidge), neotribes (Maffesoli); 7. Taste and other status strategies - luxury and patina (Cambell, McCracken), conspicuous consumption, Veblen; 8. Clothing as language/code, fashion (Simmel, Veblen) 9. Social life of things (Appadurai), extension of human potential, ownership and use of things (Beetle); 10. Communication as communication and sharing, as gift and exchange, ostensive communication; conditions of interpretation; 11. Private and public space, communication in public space, processes of aestheticization; 12. Representation, truth and power of images, the relationship between word and image; 13. The technical image, the social context of meaning-making and the political practice of image users.
