Course content
Course content: 1. Introduction, generation of designers who shaped the postmodern movement (Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini) 2. The convergence of postmodern and neo-modern tendencies from the 1990s to the present (Philippe Starck, Ron Arad) 3. The younger generation of international designers (Jasper Morrison, Marc Newson, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec) 4. The use of new technologies in the practice of international designers 5. The impact of technical innovation on design (James Dyson) 6. Ornament, nature and new technologies (Tord Boontje) 7. Parametric design (Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher) 8. Important global companies working with designers and characteristics of their production (e.g. cf. IKEA, Knoll, Vitra; Apple - Jonathan Ive and Braun - Dieter Rams) 9. Critical design (Anthony Dunne, Fiona Raby) 10. Design that helps / design for disadvantaged groups, inclusive design 11.-12. Ecology and the concept of sustainable design and its relevance to current trends in global design vs. greenwashing 13. Contemporary World Design Shows
