Course content
Academic Courses and workshops: Speculative Design as a tool of social innovation (Emil Kozole, Botas Kenda): The workshop examines the transformative potential of speculative design in addressing global challenges such as inequality, climate change, and political instability. By shifting focus from dystopian to constructive scenarios, speculative design encourages innovative thinking and equips participants with the skills to prototype solutions for a better world. The session highlights how this approach promotes social innovation and forward-thinking in professional practices, offering a framework for reimagining the future through creative and critical insights. Reimagining Spaces: Creative placemaking for a more just and regenerative future (Tímea Szőke) Placemaking is rooted in action. Therefore, this session is organised through open dialogue, hands-on exploration and collective sense-making. The workshop aims to inspire new ways of thinking about the natural and the built environment and our connection to it. Together, we will explore how small-scale spatial interventions can contribute to a more just, sustainable, and regenerative future. Through the lens of placemaking, we will consider the power of places and understand the relevance of place-based work today. Participants will be invited to imagine and prototype interventions that have the potential to reshape our spaces, strengthen communities, and work towards meaningful change. Who Is This For? Rethinking Audiences in Design, Culture, and Public Space (Eva Gartnerová, Jana Ovčáčková) What happens when we stop designing just for people?and start designing with them? This workshop invites students to explore how cultural spaces, creative projects, and public interventions can be shaped through meaningful engagement with audiences and communities. We?ll dive into real-life examples from around the world, experiment with participatory tools, and reflect on how inclusive thinking can expand the creative process. Together, we?ll map potential audiences, imagine unexpected users, and explore strategies for making your ideas more open, accessible, and resonant. We?ll also introduce the basics of audience work, gallery animation, and inclusive design?all with a focus on practical application and creativity.
