Course content

The subject is aimed at the historical development of society from its creation up to today and at basic visual and aesthetical rules influencing this development. 1. Language specifics and character of glass products visual culture with focus on technology, style development and glass morphology from the Antiquity up to today. 2. History of glass design with focus on Mesopotamia, Egypt and Europe in the era of Greek urban states, Roman Empire up to the High Middle Ages, including Czech countries. Italian Renaissance glass design and its influence on other European countries. Venetian style. Important centres of glass design, era of Rudolph II in Prague. Advanced technology of glass production, transformation of alchemy into chemistry, 2nd half of 17th century, Baroque, Classicism, Biedermeier, Historism, Art Noveau, situation today. 3. Differences in glass design development from the history up to today.
