Course content
In the seminar, students will get acquainted with the basic tendencies and key personalities of contemporary Asian and Latin American cinema. Topics: IRAN - the socio-political background and personalities of Iranian cinema from the 1980s to the present Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi, Majid Majidi, Asghar Farhadi, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Bahman Ghobadi CHINA - the socio-political background and personalities of the 5th and 6th generation of Chinese cinema Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Tian Zhuangzhuang; Jia Zhangke, Lou Ye; Gan Bi TAIWAN - the socio-political background and personalities of the new waves of the 80s and 90s Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang; The Lee, Tsai Ming-liang HONG KONG -their studio system, Shaw Brothers, Golden Harvest; genres wuxia and kung fu, the golden era of the 90s, acting stars, distinctive directors Tsui Hark, John Woo, Ringo Lam, Johnny To, Stephen Chow; Wong Kar-wai SOUTH KOREA -the social-political background; genre vs. art cinematography Kim Ki-duk, Chan-wook Park, Bong Joon-ho, Hong Sang-soo, Lee Chang-dong JAPAN -genres (j-horror, pinka eiga, anime); outstanding personalities Takeshi Kitano, Takashi Miike, Shinya Tsukamoto, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Hirokazu Koreeda LATIN AMERICA - selected personalities of Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil Carlos Reygadas, A.
