Course objectives: Introduction to the philosophical perception of film Positivism or literality: a film representing the world as it is Structuralism or duality: a film representing the world as seen by the author Post-structuralism or fluidity: a film presenting the world as an author Introduction to the new film history Thomas Elsaesser - "History of Early Cinematography and Multimedia: The Archeology of Possible Futures?" Topics: The Beginnings of Film as the Present. Multimedia Meliés. A non-linear story of cinematography. An introduction to the relationship between social sciences and the audiovisual Arthur Danto - "Works of Art and Real Things." Topics: The History of Art. The definition of art.
