Course content
Seminar - Measurement of phenomena in healthcare: types and characteristics of valid measurement; specifics of statistical surveys in healthcare (1 h). - Basic statistical terminology and types of variables (1 h). - Descriptive statistics: methods of data description (data tabulation, measures of central tendency, measures of variability) (2 h). - Graphical methods of data presentation (boxplots, histogram and frequency polygon, stem-and-leaf plots) (1 h). - Formulation and testing of statistical hypotheses in healthcare (1 h). Practical Sessions - Testing of statistical hypotheses using selected parametric tests (mean, variance, relative frequency) (1 h). - Testing of statistical hypotheses using selected non-parametric tests (chi-square goodness-of-fit test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test) (2 h). - Chi-square test of independence for contingency and four-field tables (2 h). - Regression and correlation analysis (1 h).
