Course content
Lectures - The importance of research in non-medical healthcare disciplines: dimensions and current priorities of healthcare research (1 h). - Characteristics of qualitative research in non-medical healthcare: research problem, research questions and objectives, choice of data collection techniques (2 h). - Analytical approaches in qualitative research: coding, triangulation (1 h). - Characteristics of quantitative research in non-medical healthcare: research problem, research questions, operationalization, types of variables, hypotheses (2 h). - Analytical approaches in quantitative research: statistical hypothesis testing (1 h). - Ethical aspects of research in non-medical healthcare (1 h). Seminars - Formulation of a research problem and clinical research questions using the PICO(TS) framework (1 h). - Methodology of quantitative research: defining research objectives, operationalization of variables, hypothesis formulation (2 h). - Methodology of qualitative research: defining the research problem, objectives, and research questions (2 h). - Sampling in qualitative and quantitative research (1 h). - Methods of data collection in quantitative and qualitative research (2 h). - Analysis and interpretation of data in quantitative research: data classification, graphical presentation, descriptive and inferential statistics, statistical methods for nominal, ordinal, and metric data (4 h). - Analysis and interpretation of data in qualitative research: open, axial, and selective coding; data categorization; grounded theory construction; case study (4 h).
