Course content
Lecture Sexual system: structure and function - male sexual system, female sexual system, sexual development, sexual characteristics, human development, pregnancy, fetal development, physiology of reproduction, pregnancy and childbirth, breast, mammary gland, lactation and its hormonal control, importance of breastfeeding (3 h). Circulation: small, large, fetal circulation and its functions, structure of the heart and its functions, lymphatic system, spleen, composition of blood, physiology of body fluids, functions of blood, blood groups, transfusion, functions of the immune system, management of immunity, defence mechanisms of the body (3 h). Endocrine system: function of endocrine glands, hormonal control of the body, hormones, hypo and hyperfunction (3 h). Skin system: structure of the skin and accessory skin organs, function of the skin and accessory skin organs, skin sensation, pain perception, effects of UV radiation. Thermoregulation: importance of body temperature and its control (2 h). Nervous system: central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, nervous system function - reflex, stimulation, action potential, excitation, inhibition, mediators, nervous system activity, sleep physiology, memory - learning, speech, thinking (3 h). Sensory organs: structure of the eye, ear, olfactory system, function of the eye, ear, olfactory system, receptors - function, division, characteristics (3 h). Overview of methods used in genetic diagnosis and ethical, legal and psychosocial aspects (3 h).
