Course content
Lectures: Definition of basic nursing terminology (1 hour). Nursing as an art and a scientific discipline. The position of nursing in the system of sciences (1 hour). The development of nursing and nursing education in the Czech Republic and worldwide, history (1 hour). Concept of Czech nursing (general characteristics) (1 hour). Legislative regulations and standards relating to the qualifications of non-medical healthcare professionals (1 hour). Education in nursing and other non-medical healthcare fields (1 hour). Accreditation of educational programs in non-medical healthcare fields (1 hour). National register of healthcare professionals (1 hour). National and international professional organisations of nurses and other non-medical healthcare professionals, their importance for the development of the field and profession (1 hour). Classification systems in nursing (1 hour). Conceptual models, theories, terms of conceptual models. The most well-known conceptual models and theories in nursing, their characteristics (1 hour). Philosophy of multiculturalism. Definition of basic concepts of multiculturalism. Foreigners in the Czech Republic. Basic premises of multicultural nursing care (1 hour). Culture shock: stages, impact on human health, and nursing care (1 hour). Communication cards for foreign patients and healthcare professionals (Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic), communication peculiarities (1 hour). Seminars: Goals of nursing. Characteristics of modern nursing (1 hour). Important figures in nursing. Men in nursing (2 hours). The concept of nursing in 2021 (1 hour). Regulation of the healthcare profession. National nursing procedures. NIQEH (1 hour). Qualification standard for emergency medical services and other non-medical healthcare fields (1 hour). Lifelong learning, specialised education in nursing and other non-medical health professions (1 hour). Competencies of a paramedic, teamwork, and responsibility in providing nursing care (1 hour). Use of conceptual models in practice (1 hour). Special features of nursing care for clients from different cultures (different nationalities, ethnicities, languages, religions, etc.) (1 hour). Cultural differences in selected minority groups (e.g., Ukrainians, Asian nations including the Vietnamese ethnicity, Muslims) (1 hour). News and updates in nursing. Course evaluation (1 hour). Field trip (2 hours - if possible).
