Course content
Lectures - Values of medical ethics in the 21st century - human dignity and its attributes. The concept of will in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and Albert Schweitzer. - The process of developing patients' rights: autonomy, informed consent and ethical dilemmas (ethical aspects of first aid, provision of information about health status, etc.). - Ethical aspects of child care. Declaration of the rights of the child. Rights of a hospitalized child. Ethics of preparing a child for a stressful situation - surgery, oncological treatment, perception of pain, etc. - Ethical aspects of senior care: dignitogenesis, salutogenesis, ageism. Philosophical - ethical aspects of dying and death. Charter of the rights of the dying. Code of ethics of oncological patients. Philosophy and ethical dilemmas of palliative care. Codes of ethics for palliative care. Previously expressed wishes, livingwill, advance directives. Euthanasia. The limits of dignity at the end of life and the excess of respect for a person. Seminars - Ethical aspects of listening and empathy. - The relationship of the nurse to the patient and to the patient's relatives (inappropriate situations and their prevention). Gaining the patient's trust before surgery and throughout the entire further treatment. - The process of ethical decision-making, ethical decision-making model. Evaluation of risk situations in nursing - case studies. Brainstorming.
