Lectures Basic surgical terminology, operative techniques. Division and development of surgical disciplines. Division of surgical procedures. Conservative, radical and palliative treatment in surgery. Basic and special examination methods in surgery. Surgical rehabilitation, surgical dietetics. Possibilities of involving a social worker in care. Basics of special surgery (getting to know the character, organization of work and specifics of work at workplaces): - Thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery. - Abdominal surgery, sudden abdominal events. - Traumatology and orthopaedics. - Paediatric surgery, surgical procedures in urology and gynaecology. - Plastic surgery, oncological surgery, transplantation. Seminars Characteristics of the surgical department, the work of the multidisciplinary team at individual types of surgical workplaces. Basics of asepsis, antisepsis. Specifics of nursing care for patients after minor surgical procedures, one-day surgery. Prepar-ing the patient for surgery, peculiarities of preparing the patient for emergency surgery, patient education. Postoperative care, patient care after aesthesia. Surgical wound care and drains. The issue of pain after surgery. Issues of nursing care for ostomy patients, types of ostomies. Planned admission and discharge of patients in surgical fields - the role of the social worker. Excursion at the clinical workplace. Possibilities of social worker involvement in follow-up care for surgical patients.
